Quality Measurement, Patient Care, and Interoperability: New Opportunities

Private and Government Payers are increasingly incorporating quality outcomes in their contracts. Value-based payment for care requires consistent, objective calculation of care quality. Previous initiatives to calculate ambulatory quality measures have relied on billing data or individual electronic health records (EHRs) to calculate and report performance. New methods for quality measure calculation open new approaches to how quality can be calculated and shared among payers and providers. In this webinar, participants will learn about:

  • Specific issues that affect quality measure selection and calculation
  • The importance of a longitudinal patient view in measuring care quality
  • How certified technology and interoperable data standards create standard supplemental data and gaps-in-care reports

 Dean Sittig, PhD- Professor at the University of Texas School of Biomedical Informatics in the Health Science Center at Houston

Dr. Sittig: Professor Sittig has authored over 300 articles in the field of health IT and several leading books, Improving Outcomes with Clinical Decision Support: An Implementer’s Guide, Clinical Information Systems: Overcoming Adverse Consequences, SAFER Electronic Health Records: Safety Assurance Factors for EHR Resilience, and Electronic Health Records: Challenges in Design and Implementation.

Professor Sittig is a member of the UT-Memorial Hermann Center for Healthcare Quality & Safety and Executive Director of the Clinical Informatics Research Collaborative (CIRCLE). His past work includes roles in applied clinical informatics with Kaiser Permanente, Partners Healthcare, Vanderbilt University, and WebMD. He has been a member of the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) for over 30 years and recently served on their Board of Directors. Professor Sittig was elected as a fellow of the American College of Medical Informatics (ACMI) in 1992, a Fellow of the Hospital Information Management and Systems Society (HIMSS) in 2011, and as a founding Fellow of the International Academy of Health Sciences Informatics (2017). He also is a member of Diameter Health’s Advisory Board.


 John D’Amore, MS- President and Chief Strategy Officer, Diameter Health

John D’Amore was previously Vice President at Eclipsys (now Allscripts). Prior to Eclipsys, he was responsible for clinical informatics, decision support and business intelligence at Memorial Hermann Health System. John is a technical advisor to the National Committee for Quality Assurance and a primary editor of HL7’s standard for care summaries, the Consolidated Clinical Document Architecture.
 
John received his Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from Harvard University and MS in Clinical Informatics from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.
