The computing needs within large-scale data centers have driven technological development in many forms, including several developments to optical fiber and fiber-optic cabling systems. Throughput capacity, space constraints, system-turnup time, and long-term administration of the cabling plant all have prompted providers of fiber-based technologies to refine their product offerings. This webcast seminar, produced by Cabling Installation & Maintenance, examines multiple aspects of fiber-optic infrastructure systems, describing the innovation paths they have followed to meet the demanding needs of large-scale data center networks.

Presentation 1: Fiber Considerations for Today’s Evolving Data Centers
Hyperscale, edge, cloud, colocation, in-house enterprise, and more. With numerous names and types of data center facilities getting plenty of attention in the industry, it can be difficult to navigate the drivers behind infrastructure technology trends and considerations. This presentation will help designers, integrators and installers maneuver the infrastructure demands of the ever-evolving data center landscape.

Presentation 2: Higher-Density Fiber-Optic Cable Technologies
Recent technological developments have enabled manufacturers to more densely pack optical fibers into a single cable. These new cable constructions are particularly beneficial in large-scale data centers, where pathway space likely is already congested, and cable management within a rack or enclosure can be challenging. This presentation describes new cable-construction types that are available for these environments, explaining the benefits they bring to data center managers and also providing practical advice for specifying and managing these types of cables.

Presentation 3: Test and certification of fiber-optic infrastructure in large-scale data centers
The high-density fiber infrastructure needed to deliver the high speeds demanded in large-scale data centers creates a unique set of test and certification challenges. As LC connectivity gives way to MPO and MPO-LC hybrid connectivity, test and certification becomes more complex. System design can influence what types of tests need to be performed, how optical references are set, as well as how test results are consolidated and presented. This presentation will cover how to test and certify some of the more common architectures.
