Eddy Current Testing: Essential for Reliable Power Generation

In North America alone, more than 7,000 outages per year are attributed to tube failures costing the industry hundreds of millions of dollars in lost production and repair. To help mitigate this problem, power plants have created protocols and procedures designed to locate and plug tubes on the verge of failure before they become an issue. Non-Destructive Testing is one tool helps to prevent forced outages by detecting various defects such as pitting, cracking, corrosion, erosion, grooving, steam impingement and tube-support fretting that cause tube failures.

This presentation will take an in-depth look at Eddy Current Testing and how it works. Charles Miller is an Eddy Current Level IIA for Eddy Current Inspections. His expertise includes Project Manager on various ET projects. He performs ET acquisition, analysis, data management, and prepares final inspection reports. He performs these services in both nuclear and non-nuclear power generation and industrial service condenser and heat exchangers. Various NDE office duties include producing ECT / RFT job quotes and providing Eddy Current technical support to the sales team. Mr. Miller has also provided consulting and NDE contractor oversite services to customers. His most recent projects include: Three Mile Island Nuclear Generating Station, Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station, Limerick Generating Station.
                                         
Charles has worked in the Non-Destructive Testing field since 2000, and has been with Conco Services Corporation since 2011.
