Distributed Energy - Achieving Power Resilience and Sustainability Through Innovative Business Models

Wed, Aug 15, 2018 11:03 AM EDT{LOCAL_TZ}, 58 mins

POWER magazine’s inaugural Distributed Energy Conference features a stellar lineup of industry insiders ready to share their knowledge of the evolving world of distributed generation. Experts on solar, wind, storage and more will provide insight on the issues and challenges for utilities and other power generators when it comes to the successful completion and integration of distributed energy projects. With the program set and the event just around the corner, POWER invites you to a pre-conference webinar highlighting one of our topics. Join us as Schneider Electric and Navigant Research discuss the importance of microgrids, kicking off a discussion of the technology and case studies of successful projects that will continue at the event.

What the attendees will learn

During this webinar attendees will learn about a microgrid project in Maryland that uses an innovative business model to achieve resilient power and sustainability. Here are some of the highlights:

  • How microgrids are disrupting traditional power business models in a global context
  • How new technologies and business models are driving microgrids forward
  • How “island mode operation” allowed the facility to intentionally, or automatically, separate from the electric grid and continue to operate at, or near, normal capacity for extended periods during power outages
  • The specific microgrid control system utilized to manage a suite of on-site energy technologies
  • How the strategic capital business model was crucial in completing construction without any upfront cost
  • Details on the microgrid design and performance results using the Performance Excellence in Electricity Renewal (PEER) Microgrid Rating and Design System – preliminary results indicated the highest PEER score achieved to-date at over 95%
