From the largest-scale networks in vast data centers, to many enterprise-class facilities and edge computing environments, optical networking and fiber-optic cabling systems are being more widely specified. For a network owner newly implementing or upgrading an optical network, numerous considerations and decisions await. This webcast seminar, produced by Cabling Installation & Maintenance, provides information on a wide breadth of fiber-optic cabling issues that must be taken into account when planning a deployment. Topics discussed will include the capabilities of singlemode and multimode systems, SWDM technologies and implementation, MPO polarity standards and practices, certification requirements when beyond-standards-based performance is necessary, and practicalities of certifying and troubleshooting duplex links as well as MPO links in the field.

Jim Davis has been working in the cabling industry for over 25 years. For the last 18 years he has worked at Fluke Networks, first as the Sales Director for Latin America, and more recently as a Regional Marketing Engineer. Jim has worked on International Cabling Standards Committees, is a frequent speaker at industry trade shows and has participated in dozens of manufacturer’s conferences.
Jim’s objective is to bring the experience of the Industry, the Market and the Lab to you and present it in way that the common user can understand.

James Young
Director of Enterprise Data Center Division

James currently serves as the Director of CommScope’s Enterprise Data Center division, overseeing strategy and providing leadership to product and field teams globally. Formerly James has been involved in a variety of roles including sales, marketing and operations for communication solutions working with Tyco Electronics/ AMP, Anixter, Canadian Pacific and TTS in Canada.
James has gained extensive experience in the sale of OEM products, network solutions and value-added services through direct and indirect channel sales environments. His sales experience includes electronic transmission components, telephony systems, network systems, LAN infrastructure products and fibre transmission system products. James has garnered substantial experience in OEM and channel marketing, as well as network operations as assistant director of CP’s computers and communications group.
James graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Western Ontario.  He is a registered Communication Distribution Designer (RCDD) and certified Data Center Design Expert (CDCE).
