New SAE Standards on Additive Manufacturing: World’s First for Aerospace Industry

This SAE Standards Webinar will outline the specification structure and strategy for specifications encompassing additive manufacturing processes and materials. Topics will include the interconnected relationship between the precursor materials, process, and resulting fabricated materials specifications for additive manufacturing. Baseline specifications for metallic materials using laser powder bed fusion form the basis from which it is expected other AM material and process specifications will be modelled.

Dave Abbott, Chair, SAE’s AMS-AM Committee on Additive Manufacturing

Dave Abbott is chair of SAE’s AMS-AM committee on additive manufacturing and a principal engineer with the newly formed GE Additive business, where he is responsible for additive manufacturing materials and process development. Dave has over 20 years of experience in the additive field, primarily in the aerospace sector. Prior to joining GE Additive, he was with GE Aviation for over a decade as an additive manufacturing technologist within several organizations including the Materials and Process Engineering Department, the Advanced Components and Manufacturing Sciences organization, and the Manufacturing and Quality Technology Department. He also spent eight years as co-founder of AeroMet Corp., a startup company commercializing laser additive manufacturing to supply laser formed titanium aerostructural components to the aerospace industry. Dave has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in welding engineering from the Ohio State University and has several publications and three patents related to additive manufacturing.







Daniel Reeves, Secretary, SAE’s AMS-AM Committee on Additive Manufacturing

Daniel Reeves is secretary of SAE’s AMS-AM committee on additive manufacturing. He is also a materials and process engineer responsible for additive manufacturing materials and process development with Blue Origin. Dan has over 20 years of experience in the aerospace sector. Prior to joining Blue Origin, he was with the additive manufacturing group at SpaceX. He has also held positons with the foundry group Consolidated Precision Products, Boeing, and Teledyne Ryan Aeronautical. Dan has a bachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering from Arizona State University.
