One of the most important ways clinical care is judged relates to the pain experienced by a patient.  This presentation will evaluate the patient pain experience, discuss the pharmacologic impact of local anesthetics, and review intranasally administered needleless anesthesia in dentistry.

Dr. Sean G. Boynes is a Dentist Anesthesiologist who received his D.M.D. from the University of Pittsburgh and completed a three year residency in anesthesiology from the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.  He currently serves as Director of Interprofessional Practice at the DentaQuest Institute overseeing national programs and initiatives focused on the integration and coordination of care.  Prior to taking his current position, Dr. Boynes was Director of Dental Medicine at a federally qualified health center in the Pee Dee Region of South Carolina. A prolific author and speaker, he has been recognized by many organizations for his work in health policy and clinical care, that include: the National Health Service Corps featured him as one of the 40 top clinicians for their 40th Anniversary Celebration, the South Carolina School Nurses Association named him recipient of the Distinguished School Services Award, and the National Children’s Oral Health Foundation lists him as a Dentist of Distinction.
