SIFT-MS: The Single Solution for Rapid Vehicle Interior Air Quality (VIAQ) Testing

Available On-Demand until November 2, 2017

Regulators and consumers demand increasingly lower levels of harmful volatile emissions in motor vehicle passenger cabins, pushing manufacturers toward more comprehensive testing – from component level to finished vehicles – to ensure conformance and avoid costly tear-out. However, conventional analytical technologies are expensive, complex, and slow, since they are based on chromatographic methods.

Selected Ion Flow Tube Mass Spectrometry (SIFT-MS) is an innovative, industry-proven analytical technique that directly and instantly analyzes air down to part-per-trillion (ppt) concentrations, providing rapid component screening and immediate process feedback.

By applying eight rapidly switchable chemical ionization agents, SIFT-MS selectively and quantitatively analyzes the complete range of:

•Volatile organic compounds or VOCs (e.g., formaldehyde, acrolein, benzene, styrene, and dichlorobenzene)

•Inorganic gases (e.g., ammonia, hydrogen chloride, and hydrogen sulfide)

            •Organometallic compounds (e.g., tributyl tin)

This 60-minute Webinar will introduce SIFT-MS and outline the benefits that make it the ideal tool for product emission testing applications from component screening through to complete vehicle testing on the production line. Case studies will be used to illustrate how SIFT-MS has been applied to a range of emissions testing applications. Throughputs in excess of 30 samples per hour are readily achieved.

An audience Q&A follows the technical presentation.

Presenters:

Barry Prince, Ph.D., Director of Global Sales, Syft Technologies

Barry Prince, Ph.D., is the Director of Global Sales at Syft Technologies. He graduated from the University of Canterbury in 2000 with a Ph.D. in physical chemistry and joined the Syft Technologies team in early 2004. Barry manages the international sales department, which is responsible for both direct sales efforts and supporting Syft’s extensive distributor network.

Vaughan Langford, Ph.D., Director of Applications & Marketing, Syft Technologies

Vaughan Langford, Ph.D., is the Director of Applications & Marketing at Syft Technologies. He completed his Ph.D. in physical chemistry at the University of Canterbury in 1997 and joined Syft in 2002, where he directs the applications and marketing departments. Vaughan has experience across all SIFT-MS application areas but has focused particularly on air quality.
