Hardening campuses: Stopping threats before they materialize

Increasing threats of campus violence and its deadly consequences have been a media staple for more than two decades. The realities of an active shooter event on campus have heightened awareness among parents, teachers and administrators. But what have security professionals done to address this chilling issue? Robert F. (Bob) Lang, CPP, is the chief security officer at Kennesaw State University in Georgia. Lang formerly served as director of homeland security at Georgia Tech for three years where he also was the director of research security for 14 additional years. He came to Georgia Tech from the Lockheed Corporation where he was the plant protection manager from 1980 to 1988. Prior to Lockheed he was with the FBI in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Vaughn Baker is president of security training and consulting services firm Strategos International. His professional experiences include 20 years of patrol, investigations and special operations assignments. He has also served as a member of his agency's SWAT team for over 13 years. Baker has trained thousands of school, healthcare, government, faith-based, law enforcement and military professionals from around the world over the past 15 years on various safety, security, law enforcement, military and tactical related topics.
Brett St Pierre is HID Global's Director of Business Development for the Education market. In this role, St Pierre is responsible for coordinating the company's product roadmap and business strategy for the education vertical. He also serves as co-chair for the SIA Education Interest Group, a member of NACCU, and has supported many educational institutions with technology transitions. As a veteran in the Security industry, St Pierre has over 15 years of experience at the organization.
Doug Dickinson is currently the Director of Sales for IQinVision on the east coast. During his tenure with IQinVision, he has progressed through roles of increased scope and responsibility. His long-standing and diverse experience in video surveillance and converged IP architectures has enabled him to effectively assist his channel partners and their clients in implementing network solutions to resolve difficult electronic surveillance and security issues. Doug has a strong background in networking, having spent 15 years in the telecom industry with MCI, Newbridge Networks, and Alcatel, prior to making the transition to electronic security. He has practical experience in digital IP video, network video management, and video analytics. Doug has a BS degree in Management Information Systems and served in Germany as a U.S. Army Signal Corps officer.
Janette has 10 years of experience in the security industry and joined the Quantum Secure team four years ago. Since then, she has managed the Southern portion of the U.S. as a Regional Sales Executive. She recently joined the QS Business Development team as their Director of Vertical Development.
