Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center Shares Secrets to Cutting Safety Risks, Securing the Hospital

Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center is internationally recognized for improving child health and transforming delivery of care through fully integrated, globally recognized research, education and innovation. Learn the steps the organization took to better control visitor access in and out of the hospital to create a more secure environment and keep everyone safe. Of critical concern was how to reduce the risk of patient abductions and prevent patients from leaving without the knowledge of hospital staff. Cincinnati Children's ranks third in the nation among all Honor Roll hospitals in U.S.News and World Report's 2013 Best Children's Hospitals ranking. It is ranked #1 for cancer and in the top 10 for nine of 10 pediatric specialties. Cincinnati Children's, a non-profit organization, is one of the top three recipients of pediatric research grants from the National Institutes of Health, and a research and teaching affiliate of the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.
Melissa O'Brien grew up in Cincinnati and studied biology at Xavier University. After receiving her Bachelor of Science Degree, Melissa went on to earn her Master's Degree in health services administration from Xavier. During her graduate program, Melissa completed a yearlong administrative fellowship at Children's Hospital of Michigan in Detroit. She moved back to Cincinnati after graduation and worked at Premier Health Partners in Dayton, Ohio as a managed care analyst. Melissa accepted her current position as implementation coordinator at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center in October 2012. She currently works for the Information Services Department at Children's and served as a project manager for the visitor management system implementation.
Susan Milligan is originally from Pittsburgh where she studied nursing. After moving to Cincinnati, she changed her focus to strategic leadership and managed the learning and development function for both Macy's and Bloomingdale's for 15 years. Her experience there included the centralization of instructional design and facilitation, the creation of a coaching library and the successful launch of their Philippine training initiatives. Since joining Children's, Susan has been promoted to lead the Welcome Center and Guest Services teams. She was instrumental in the successful launch of the visitor management system and has created a voice response unit to ensure families were served when it was convenient for them.
Janette has 10 years of experience in the security industry and joined the Quantum Secure team four years ago. Since then, she has managed the Southern portion of the U.S. as a Regional Sales Executive. She recently joined the QS Business Development team as their Director of Vertical Development.
