Using Pre-Construction Services to Maximize the Advantages of a Collaborative Design Process
Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014, at 11 a.m. PT /1 p.m. CT/2 p.m. ET

Collaborative design is an emerging construction delivery process that applies multidisciplinary communication and collaboration to building projects from conception to completion. By incorporating elements such as pre-construction services during the design of the project, key stakeholders can streamline overall project delivery, reduce cost overruns, and strengthen key relationships early in the process to meet owners’ project requirements. This technique can help boost efficiency, minimize change orders, and generate positive results throughout the lifecycle of the building.

In this presentation, the audience will obtain exclusive information based on a research study completed in 2013. Data and research findings will be presented, and a consulting engineer will give real-world examples of his use of pre-construction services and the benefits delivered from using a collaborative design model.

Learning objectives:

  • Understand the basic principles of the collaborative design process
  • Learn in detail what the collaborative design process is, and understand why it is important to consulting engineers
  • The presentation will address and allay some of the concerns about adopting this way of building design and construction
  • Examples spell out how the concept has been successfully applied as experts discuss the benefits of collaborative design and the use of pre-construction services.
